Two Ways to Build Your Chainsaw Skills
This fall, Women & Our Woods and Vermont Woodlands Association are offering two hands-on chainsaw training opportunities targeted to women landowners and professionals. Both emphasize safety, practical skills, and confidence, but they offer different learning experiences. Here’s how to choose the workshop that is right for you.
Game of Logging- Levels 1 & 2
August 29–30 | Moretown, VT
Game of Logging (GOL) is a nationally recognized, structured training program focused on safe and efficient tree felling taught by a certified GOL instructor. Level 1 introduces chainsaw safety, operation, and basic felling techniques. Level 2 builds on those skills with saw maintenance, sharpening, and more advanced felling applications. Each participant will have an opportunity to fell a tree.
Best for: Beginners and experienced participants who want a structured approach to safe, technical tree felling.
Chainsaw Workshops for Women: Build Comfort and Confidence
October 17–18 | Duxbury, VT
These workshops are taught by instructors from Women's Tree Climbing Workshop, a women owned business. This program will breakdown how a chainsaw can hurt you, but more importantly it is about how to use this great tool efficiently and ergonomically while getting work done. We will cover the fundamentals: choosing a saw, selecting protective equipment, troubleshooting, maintenance, and practicing different cuts on downed wood. Participants can try a variety of gas and battery-powered saws and receive individualized coaching from experienced women instructors. The second day introduces more advanced bucking, limbing, sharpening, and tree-felling skills.
Best for: Beginners or anyone seeking more comfort, practice, and individualized instruction before working independently with a chainsaw.
