Saturday, June 18
9-10 AM
Monkton Central School (1036 Monkton Rd)
Monkton‘s Conservation Commission is hosting a presentation by Travis Hart, Habitat Biologist with Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department. Travis will discuss invasive plants in relation to forest health and wildlife habitat. This will include an overview of common invasive plants that can be found in the state as well as various potential treatment/removal methods and why invasive plant management is important. Travis will also discuss programs available to provide potential cost-share funds to assist private landowners with larger invasive plant issues on their own lands as well as additional wildlife habitat-oriented practices. After the presentation, attendees are welcome to try out the Uprooter, a heavy-duty pulling tool as well as other tools to tackle buckthorn in the woods behind the school. Gloves are recommended when working with buckthorn and other invasives. Meet in the school parking lot. E-mail Debra Sprague or Ann Miller if you are interested in attending. Presentation made possible thanks to a grant from the Association of Vermont Conservation Commissions.
