Ben Campbell

A Steward of Vermont’s Forests

Ben Campbell is a consulting forester and owner of EB Campbell Forest Land Management, LLC—he’s also a passionate landowner of 208 acres in Starksboro, Vermont. His land, enrolled in the Tree Farm program since 2009, includes:

  • 174 acres of productive forest

  • 22 acres of wetlands and ledges

  • 10 acres of idle agricultural land

Ben’s management goals align with all four Tree Farm resource areas:

  • Producing quality forest products

  • Enhancing wildlife habitat

  • Protecting clean water

Fostering recreation

He first heard of the Tree Farm program in college in 1985, drawn in by their “cool hats.” Today, he sees the program as a validation of his commitment to excellent forestry.

Ben’s advice to New Tree Farmers:

“It doesn’t stop with the development of the forest plan—it’s just the beginning.”

He emphasizes the importance of continuous learning and adapting, encouraging landowners to try new management techniques that align with their landscape goals.

For Ben, he acknowledges the challenge of engaging the next generation in Tree Farm is real, but believes that early involvement and the freedom to innovate can instill pride and satisfaction in continuing the stewardship legacy.

Ben’s story is a testament to the deep connection between thoughtful forest management and a lasting legacy, both for the land and for future generations.
