Maple, to Tap or Cut?

Overview
To tap or to cut? This workshop will explore the timeless conundrum of whether to tap sugar maple for a sugarbush, or save it for a timber harvest. We will discuss what a healthy sugar bush looks like, when a maple tree might be more valuable as a sap producer or a lumber producer. We will also discuss the silviculture of a healthy sugarbush, building sugarbush roads, and accessing the woods during the worst time of year. The morning will include presentations, followed by an afternoon in a sugarbush. This workshop is approved for 8 LEAP credits, SAF credits are pending.
