Women and our Woods VT: Aldo Leopold Bench Building Workshop
We’ll begin with a casual potluck brunch, a chance to connect with other women who care about the woods and share an interest in stewardship.
Together, we’ll explore the ideas of Aldo Leopold, forester, conservationist, and author of A Sand County Almanac, and reflect on what it means to care for the land. We’ll also take a short woods walk to ground our conversation in the landscape around us.
From there, we’ll head into the workshop portion of the day. Working in small groups, participants will take part in the process of creating something from tree to product, using wood from the Vermont Land Trust’s Jerusalem Skyline Forest in Starksboro to build a simple, beautiful bench. Members of the WOW Vermont team will guide you through the steps, with plenty of time for hands-on learning.
Each participant or household will leave with a finished bench to take home. No prior experience is necessary.
We have materials to build 10 benches, so space is limited. Please plan for one bench per household.
